PET PREFORM MOLDS

▪ Material Choosing
During the production of a PET Preform Mold following materials are used,
2312 for mold plates
2083 stainless steel for core, neck-ring, lock-ring, cavity and gate insert
2344 hot work steel for hot-runner
▪ Design
Especially hot-runner must be designed on a basis of best material flow to cavities. Besides, a design of a quick mold
change will provide a time saving for the user.
▪ Cooling System
The most important factor which has an impact on cycle time is cooling time and the cooling of the preform in a
minimum time depends on the cooling system of core, neck-ring, cavity and gate insert.
▪ Valve Gate System
In new generation preform molds pneumatic activated valve gate system is used. Here, the most important point is
standardization of the valve gate pins.
▪ Thermocouple and Resistances
Must be high quality.
▪ Coating
In order to obtain an easy take out of the preforms, the cores must be coated specially if we talk about lengthy
preforms.
▪ Alternative Solutions
Changing the preform weight is possible by production of a new cold half mold or alternative cores for an existing
mold. Furthermore, it is possible to change the both weigh and neck of a preform by production of new core, neck-ring
and cavity.
